As we moved further into Wyoming we managed a side trip to follow some more of the Oregon trail. We wanted to see Independence Rock and found by accident the Mormon Hand Cart Museum. It tells the story of how the Mormons emigrating to America had very little money to by wagons and Oxen . All they could afford were the hand carts . I still can't picture a family pushing and pulling one across the open prairies and over the mountains. Just sheer will and a belief in their God. Independence Rock was awesome. It had many names and dates carved in it from the early Pioneers as they crossed the Country in search of their new futures in the Oregon and California Territories. If the party was not at Independence Rock by July Fourth they stood a good of dying in the Mountains as the Donner Party or the Willie Hand Cart Company did. G
