Woke up today to 20 knot winds and it's a cold mother , 28 degrees with a wind chill in the low teens. Though we were done with the cold but the weather man tells us one more night in the 20's and then we go back to 60' and 70's by weeks end and then good ridden to the really cold stuff. We are back into the swing of things here, almost like we never left. Most of the Refuge staff has the Flu but it seems like the Volunteers were spared the out break. We don't spend much time in the Main office were all the staff came down with it and the staff that was on vacation for the Holidays were also spared. We still have a couple more training days to come but now it's all little stuff so it will be easy.
The Song bird migration will coming soon and we are looking forward to seeing them in the thousands. Right now the Duck and Goose hunting season is going on here and it's a little disturbing to hear gun shots at day light 3 days a week until the end of January. Poor birds really don't stand a chance but it is necessary they say to keep the flocks down? Oh well who's to say what is the best for Water Fowl Management . This should be and easy stay here this Season as the Refuge has a full staff of Volunteers and they only have two holes in the Refuge Staff line up so every thing should flow nicely. Looking forward to Bird Banding beginning at the end of the month and some other warm weather programs coming soon. G
